Curia Memorial Mass - 9 Nov 2025

CURIA ROSA MYSTICA MEMORIAL MASS 2025

PROLOGUE

The memorial mass held among Legionaries every year is to remember those who we loved and those whom we walked together in our Legion of Mary journey.  Together, we say the Legionary prayers every week in meetings and Legionary events.  Through assignments, we brought lights to those whom we served and in prayers and caring, we carried the love of God to all whom we loved.  In our apostolic life, people we encountered brought inspirations, lessons, and guidance that brings us closer to God.  It is with this reason that the month of November reminds us of those who passed away and as we slowly close this year, we can continue to review all these and improve and grow in our journey with God year after year.

Let us all continue the prayer journey with them and commence our Memorial  Mass by saying the Opening Prayer first.

OPENING PRAYER (Please kneel)

(Make the Sign of the Cross) In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your love.

v. Send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created.

R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray.

God our Father, pour out the gifts of Your Holy Spirit on the world. You sent the Spirit on Your Church to begin the teaching of the gospel: now let the Spirit continue to work in the world through the hearts of all who believe. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

v. You, O Lord, will open my lips.

R. And my tongue shall announce Your praise.

ENTRANCE HYMANL – AMAZING GRACE

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound

That sav'd a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now I am found,

Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears reliev'd;

How precious did that grace appear,

The hour I first believ'd!

Thro' many dangers, toils and snares,

I have already come;

'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,

And grace will lead me home.

When we've been there ten thousand years

Bright shining as the sun,

We've no less days to sing God's praise

Than when we've first begun

Priest: The Lord be with you.

PENITENTIAL RITE:

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Priest: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,

and bring us to everlasting life.

R: Amen.

Let us pray (pause)

Almighty and merciful God, graciously keep from us all adversity, so that, unhindered in mind and body alike, we may pursue in freedom of heart the things that are yours.

O God, who willed that your Only Begotten Son, having conquered death, should pass over into the realm of heaven, grant, we pray, to your departed servants in the Legion of Mary that, with the mortality of this life overcome, they may gaze eternally on you, their Creator and Redeemer.  Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

R. Amen.

FIRST READING (The King of the world will raise us up to live again forever.)

A reading from the second Book of Maccabees (7:1-2, 9-14)

It happened that seven brothers with their mother were arrested and tortured with whips and scourges by the king, to force them to eat pork in violation of God’s law. One of the brothers, speaking for the others, said: “What do you expect to achieve by questioning us? We are ready to die rather than transgress the laws of our ancestors.”

At the point of death the second brother said: “You accursed fiend, you are depriving us of this present life, but the King of the world will raise us up to live again forever. It is for his laws that we are dying.”

After him the third brother suffered their cruel sport. He put out his tongue at once when told to do so, and bravely held out his hands, as he spoke these noble words: “It was from Heaven that I received these; for the sake of his laws I disdain them; from him I hope to receive them again.” Even the king and his attendants marveled at the young man’s courage, because he regarded his sufferings as nothing.

After he had died, they tortured and maltreated the fourth brother in the same way. When he was near death, he said, “It is my choice to die at the hands of men with the hope God gives of being raised up by him; but for you, there will be no resurrection to life.” —The Word of the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM (17:1, 5-6, 8, 15)

R. Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full. (Ps 17:15b)

Hear, O Lord, a just cause; attend to my outcry; listen to my prayer from lips without deceit. (R)

My steps had been steadfast in your paths, my feet have not faltered. I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my word. (R)

Keep me as the pupil of your eye, hide me in the shadow of your wings. But I in justice shall behold your face; on waking I shall be content in your presence. (R)

SECOND READING (May the Lord encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.)

A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians (2:16-3:5)

Brothers and sisters: May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.

Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you, and that we may be delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. We are confident of you in the Lord that what we instruct you, you are doing and will continue to do. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of Christ. —The Word of the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (Rev 1:5a, 6b)

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Jesus Christ is the firstborn of the dead; to him be glory and power, forever and ever. (R)

(Long Form)

GOSPEL (He is not God of the dead, but of the living.)

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (20:27-38)

Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward and put this question to Jesus, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone’s brother dies leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers; the first married a woman but died childless. Then the second and the third married her, and likewise all the seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to her.” Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise. That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when Moses called the Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” —The Gospel of the Lord.

R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily

The Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.  I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, He came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day, in accordance with the Scriptures.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Let us pray to the Lord.

R: Lord hear our prayer.

5. For the intentions of Pope Leo XIII:

That the prayer of Pope Leo XIII to the Holy Spirit for the renewal of the world may be fulfilled in our time - that all hearts may be inflamed with love of God and devotion to Mary, Mother of the Church.

OFFERTORY HYMNAL – BLESSED BE GOD

Blessed are you O Lord, God of all creation.  Through your goodness we have this bread to offer. (Refrain)

Refrain: We come together, united with Jesus.  We sing together, praise you forever.

Blessed are you O Lord, God of all creation.  Through your goodness we have this wine to offer. (Refrain)

Blessed are you O Lord, God of all creation.  Through your goodness we have our life to offer. (Refrain)

(Please stand)

AFTER THE OFFERTORY HYMNAL:

Priest: Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father

R: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Look with favor, we pray, O Lord,

upon the sacrificial gifts offered here,

that, celebrating in mystery the Passion of your Son,

we may honor it with loving devotion.

Through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

Priest: The Lord be with you.
R: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
R : We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R: It is right and just.

Priest: It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord.  In him the hope of blessed resurrection has dawned, that those saddened by the certainty of dying might be consoled by the promised of immortality to come.  Indeed for your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and, when this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven.  And so, with Angels and Archanges, with Thrones and Dominions, and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim:

SANCTUS (HOLY, HOLY, HOLY)

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts, Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna, in the highest, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest, Hosana in the highest.

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts, Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna, in the highest, Hosanna, in the highest,

Priest: Be pleased, O God, we pray, to bless, acknowledge, and approve this offering in every respect; make it spiritual and acceptable, so that it may become for us the Body and Blood of your most beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.  On the day before he was to suffer, and with eyes raised to heaven to you, O God, his almighty Father, giving you thanks, he said the blessing, broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took this precious chalice in his holy and venerable hands, and once more giving you thanks, he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

(Please stand)

THE MYSTERY OF FAITH

Priest: The mystery of faith.

R: We proclaim your death, O Lord.  And profess your resurrection... Until you come again

Priest: To you, therefore, most merciful Father, we make humble prayer and petition through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord: that you accept and bless these gifts, these offerings, these holy and unblemished sacrifices, which we offer you firstly for your holy catholic Church. Be pleased to grant her peace, to guard, unite and govern her throughout the whole world, together with your servant Leo our Pope and Steven our Bishop, and all those who, holding to the truth, hand on the catholic and apostolic faith.  Remember, Lord, your servants N. and N.  and all gathered here, whose faith and devotion are known to you. For them, we offer you this sacrifice of praise or they offer it for themselves and all who are dear to them: for the redemption of their souls, in hope of health and well-being, and paying their homage to you, the eternal God, living and true.  In communion with those whose memory we venerate, especially the glorious ever-Virgin Mary, Mother of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ, † and blessed Joseph, her Spouse, your blessed Apostles and Martyrs, Peter and Paul, Andrew, (James, John, Thomas, James, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Simon and Jude; Linus, Cletus, Clement, Sixtus, Cornelius, Cyprian, Lawrence, Chrysogonus, John and Paul, Cosmas and Damian) and all your Saints; we ask that through their merits and prayers, in all things we may be defended by your protecting help.  Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Priest: Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is yours, for ever and ever. Amen.

R: Amen.

THE COMMUNION RITE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Priest: At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say: R: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Priest: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

R: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever.

Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles, Peace I leave you, my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.  Who live and reign for ever and ever.

R: Amen.

Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

R: And with your spirit.

Priest: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

ANGUS DEI (LAMB OF GOD)

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace, grant us peace.

(Please kneel)

Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

R: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed

COMMUNION ANTIPHON (Cf. Ps 23 (22):1-2)

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.  Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose, near restful waters he leads me.

COMMUNION HYMNAL 1 – AS THE DEER

As the deer panteth for the water,

so my soul longeth after Thee

You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship Thee.

You alone are my strength, my shield,

To You alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my heart's desire,

and I long to worship Thee.

I want You more than gold or silver, only You can satisfy.

You alone are the real joy giver,

and the apple of my eye.

You alone are my strength, my shield;

To You alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my heart's desire,

and I long to worship Thee.

You're my friend and You are my brother,

even though You are a King.

I love You more than any other,

so much more than anything.

You alone are my strength, my shield;

To You alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my heart's desire,

and I long to worship Thee.

COMMUNION HYMNAL 2 – Prayer of St. Francis

Make me a channel of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me bring your love.

Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,

And where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace.

Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope.

Where there is darkness, only light,

And where there's sadness, ever joy.

Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console.

To be understood as to understand.

To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

in giving of ourselves that we receive,

and in dying that we're born to eternal life.

COMMUNION HYMNAL 3 - My Peace

My peace I give unto you,

It's a peace that the world cannot give,

It's a peace that the world

cannot understand,

Peace to know,

Peace to live,

My peace I give unto you.

My love I give unto you,

I's a love that the world cannot give,

It's a love that the world

cannot understand,

Love to know,

Love to live,

My love I give unto you.

My peace I give unto you,

It's a peace that the world cannot give,

It's a peace that the world

cannot understand,

Peace to know,

Peace to live,

My peace I give unto you.

It's a peace that the world

cannot understand,

My peace I give unto you.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Let us pray (pause)

Nourished by this sacred gift, O Lord, we give you thanks and beseech your mercy, that, by the pouring forth of your Spirit, the grace of integrity may endure in those your heavenly power has entered.

Through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

SOLEMN BLESSING

Priest: The Lord be with you.
R: And with your spirit.
Bow down for the blessing.

Priest: May almighty God bless you: the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
R: Amen.
Priest: The mass has ended.  Go forth, the Mass is ended.
R: Thanks be to God.

DISMISSAL HYMNAL – PASS IT ON

It only takes a spark to get a fire going,

And soon all those around can warm up in its glowing;

That's how it is with God's Love,

Once you've experienced it,

Your spread His love to everyone;

You want to pass it on.

What a wondrous time in spring

when all the tress are budding,

The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming;

That's how it is with God's love,

Once you've experienced it,

You want to sing, it's fresh like spring, You want to pass it on.

I wish for you my friend

this happiness that I've found;

You can depend on Him,

It matters not where you're bound,

I'll shout it from the mountain top,

I want the world to know;

The Lord of love has come to me,

I want to pass it on.

I'll shout it from the mountain top,

I want the world to know;

The Lord of love has come to me,

I want to pass it on.

Grant us a lively faith, animated by charity, which will enable us to perform all our actions from the motive of pure love of You, and ever to see You and serve You in our neighbour; a faith, firm and immovable as a rock, through which we shall rest tranquil and steadfast amid the crosses, toils and disappointments of life; a courageous faith which will inspire us to undertake and carry out without hesitation great things for your glory and for the salvation of souls; a faith which will be our Legion’s Pillar of Fire – to lead us forth united – to kindle everywhere the fires of divine love – to enlighten those who are in darkness and in the shadow of death – to inflame those who are lukewarm – to bring back life to those who are dead in sin; and which will guide our own feet in the way of peace; so that – the battle of life over – our Legion may reassemble, without the loss of any one, in the kingdom of Your love and glory. FRANK DUFF PRAYER

God our Father, you inspired your servant Frank Duff with a profound insight into the mystery of your Church, the Body of Christ, and of the place of Mary the Mother of Jesus in this mystery.  In his immense desire to share this insight with others and in filial dependence on Mary, he formed her Legion to be a sign of her maternal love for the world and a means of enlisting all her children in the Church’s evangelizing work.  We thank you Father for the graces conferred on him and for the benefits accruing to the Church from his courageous and shining faith.  With confidence we beg you that through his intercession you grant the petition we lay before you… (prayer intentions)… and The Beatification of Frank Duff.  Text Box: 2We ask too that if it be in accordance with your will, the holiness of his life may be acknowledged by the Church for the glory of your Name, through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
